Dave Clarke is a DJ with an anarchist streak a mile wide and punk in his soul. Nothing says this as potently as his new album, 'The Desecration of Desire'. Electronic to the hilt yet full of rich, dark songwriting, it's been almost two years in the making and comes 14 years after his last full-length outing.

"The desire to write songs has been bubbling in me for ages," Clarke explains, "My first album was a collection of tracks, the 'Red' series of EPs, plus other stuff. With my second, even access to my studio was an issue. Those two felt like collections. This one's more like a book, a chronology. I'm so happy with my studio. I've stayed away from club music. Finally, it's just me, my imagination and a touch of fearlessness about opening up."

Dave Clarke has long embraced sounds outside staunch electronic dance, from Savages to Idles to old favourites Bauhaus. Such music informs his attitude as a DJ, using Serato on a 13" Macbook Pro Retina for ruthlessly effective, fat-free techno and electro sets. It also heavily flavours his new album, on which he's worked with vocalists such as US alt-rocker Mark Lanegan, gothic synth don Mt. Sims, Brighton electronic artist Gazelle Twin, and Portishead associate Anika. He's even included a version of new wave cult hit 'Is Vic There?' (originally by Department S) featuring Paris-based DJ-producer Louisahhh.

A serious car crash in Serbia in July 2016 also affected Clarke. It fed into the album's pensive mood, and gave him a desire to DJ less but to inject more of himself into the sets he takes on. "I still love DJing with a passion," he enthuses, "but the album also ignited a flame within me about making music, about being totally true to myself. It's been a long time coming..."

Dave Clarke was born and raised in Brighton, England, but currently resides in Amsterdam, a city which revitalized his life and work. The offspring of a technology loving father and a disco-soul loving mother, it was always evident that Clarke would cut a swathe through music. As a youth he ran away from home, sleeping in car parks and on beaches. He took lousy jobs in shoe shops, living off 5 a day, to subsidise his income from badly paid local DJ gigs - anything to further his involvement with music.

"I didn't really engage at all with the outside world," he recalls, "I was your typical disenfranchised JD Salinger-inspired young adult that used to hide in and behind music."

Clarke's debut release was in 1990 on XL, around the time the label was launching The Prodigy. He used the name Hardcore, a guise he then took to the legendary Belgian techno-rave imprint R&S where he released various EPs (some as Directional Force). By 1992 Clarke's own label, Magnetic North, was on the rise and he unveiled the classic 'Alkaline 3dh' (as Fly By Wire), among others. A next level career boost was round the corner when his 'Red' trilogy were unleashed on Bush Records in 1994. These catapulted Clarke into a different league and he suddenly found himself remixing the likes of Kevin Saunderson's 'Inner City', The Chemical Brothers, New Order, Depeche Mode, Moby, Leftfield and Underworld. Undisputed landmarks in techno, DJ Mag rightly incorporated 'Red' in its All Time Techno Top 100 list.

Clarke's debut album 'Archive One' followed, flecked with hints of breakbeat and electronica, a novelty in the puritanical techno scene of the time. Clarke's mix CDs include the techno/electro double 'World Service' outings, one of which sold nearly 100,000 and made it into Resident Advisor's top ten mix compilations of the 21 st century. He signed to Skint Records - home of Fatboy Slim - resulting in 2004's 'Devil's Advocate' album, jammed with dark techno energy but laced with hip hop beats. When his production pace ebbed, Music Man Records gathered together 'Remixes & Rarities' in 2007, making 'Album Of The Month' in Mixmag and receiving critical plaudits all over.

After a break from production, recent years saw Clarke make his presence felt again, working with Dutch partner Mr Jones (Jonas Uittenbosch) as _Unsubscribe_ and dropping remixes ranging from John Foxx's seminal synth-pop gem 'Underpass' to Gesaffelstein, Detroit Grand Pubas and Octave One, as well cutting tracks for labels such as Houndstooth and Boysnoize. In 2016 an album of remixes, 'Charcoal Eyes (A Selection of Remixes From Amsterdam)', ranging from Placebo to A Place to Bury Strangers, suggested Clarke was revitalized in the studio. The new album confirms it and includes a track made with virtuoso producer Keith Tenniswood (AKA Radioactive Man).

As a DJ, Clarke plays out three weekends a month across Europe and the world, living up to his nickname, the Baron of Techno, a moniker given him by the late, great BBC Radio DJ John Peel. There's the same attention to detail each time, his sets swooping whip-smart along the cutting blade of techno and electro, backed up by a seasoned bag of DJ tricks in which his early hip hop roots clearly show. Techno's first and original "Man in Black", Clarke blends into the background upon arrival and lets his music do the talking. That's where he comes alive, where skills honed for years blow venues apart.

From small, sweaty clubs to the likes of Fabric, Fuse or Tresor, Clarke nurtures an extraordinary relationship with the crowd. It's the same with festivals. He's played Awakenings, I Love Techno, Lowlands, Pukkelpop, Glastonbury and Nature One, and developed a special relationship with Tomorrowland where he has his own stage. Here he's showcased names such as Green Velvet, Vitalic, Heidi, Seth Troxler, Chris Liebing, Jeff Mills and Ben Klock. Clarke also continues to be a key player in the Amsterdam Dance Event where his Dave Clarke Presents event at Melkweg has sold out 11 consecutive years running.

And then there's 'White Noise', Clarke's weekly radio show, a global institution and an indicator of where the scene is headed, more than 600 editions in and going out on over 100 FM partners worldwide. Here Clarke casts light on aspiring producers he discovers in his Dropbox alongside more established artists.

"I've never been interested in what's trendy and what's not," Clarke explains, "but the best music comes to me every single day and I want to share it." His affiliation with technology makes him the perfect ambassador for brands such as Serato, Soundtoys, Waves and French gear manufacturer Arturia, as these are the tools of his trade.
Deep down, however, Dave Clarke continues to buck predictability and to do his own thing. He flies the flag for true techno spirit.
Whether it's pushing cutting edge sounds on far-flung dancefloors or producing the haunting Mark Lanegan-fronted 'Monochrome Sun' from his new album, he has a consistency of vision and purpose rare in the ever-changing world of dance music.

In short, Dave Clarke might be established, but he will never be establishment.

Dave Clarke: Shares New Track 'I'm Not Afraid'

With the first single already receiving support from BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music and club plays from the likes of Laurent Garnier, Len Faki, Nicole Moudeber, Marcel Dettmann etc.

Techno and electronic music aficionado Dave Clarke releases the second single from this new album 'I'm Not Afraid', featuring the sublime vocals of Anika.

With a love of punk and time spent as a political journalist, former Beak collaborator Anika is the perfect match for Clarke. The resulting track features a devastating bass guitar riff supplied by Keith Tenniswood (Radioactive Man) matched with Anika's assured vocals and poignant lyrics.

After a 14 year hiatus, this will be the second release from Clarke's eagerly awaited third album 'The Desecration Of Desire' which epitomises what Dave Clarke sounds like and speaks about, in 2017.

Says Clarke: "I bought Anika's album from Get Records in Amsterdam when it came out, 'Masters of War' was the track for me and I have always thought about working together on a bass heavy track and her lyrics here are sublime and political". Clarke is famously opinionated and outspoken and his music has always been just as singular and standout.
Whether remixing Depeche Mode, Placebo or Amazing Snakeheads, serving up his legendary White Noise Radio shows or impressing with his DJ'ing dexterity at the world's finest clubs and festivals, when Dave Clarke speaks, everybody listens.

    Previewed in Loud and Quiet.

Tomorrowland: 'This Was Tomorrow' The Movie

The year 2015 will be chronicled as magical, mythical and memorable. The people of Tomorrow experienced Tomorrowland on three continents this year. All these and many more precious moments were captured in a fascinating movie 'This Was Tomorrow' the motion picture of a magnificent year. Dave Clarke: 'White Noise' 400th Episode

The mother of all techno radio shows and podcasts, Dave Clarke's legendary White Noise, will reach its 400th episode on Saturday the 24th of August 2013. This longest enduring techno music radio show is seen by global techno fans as an absolute institution for techno and electro and an indicator of where the scene is headed. For the 400th installment of White Noise, Clarke will present a special 3-hour live show in the Dublin studios of Irish radio station RTE 2FM accompanied by special guests, to be aired over the airwaves as well as live via YouTube.

The thrust of White Noise is to cast light on new talented producers and exciting new music by both established as well as aspiring producers Clarke discovers on a weekly basis. Rather than playing the obvious, Dave Clarke programs music that won't have normally be given a chance.
The amicable split up with Dutch radio broadcaster VPRO (3FM) in 2012, and by reducing the show from two hours to a one hour show, allowed Clarke to dedicate more time to create music. Clarke continued White Noise on the Irish radio station RTE 2FM and French online and airwave station Radio FG, followed by the award winning web radio Digitally Imported (DI.fm). Currently, White Noise is syndicated to over forty radio stations worldwide.

Dave Clarke will fly to Dublin to live present an extended 3-hour White Noise #400 show between 10pm and 1am (UK time). Prior to the festive White Noise episode, radio host Will Kinsella will present a pre-show on RTE Pulse between 9pm and 10pm UK time. Alongside Clarke, The Baron of Techno will be joined by DefeKt - an electro musician representing Southern Ireland - and the Northern Ireland tech-sisters L.A.W., a duo who came in first place on the Demolition Panel during the Amsterdam Dance Event in 2012, a panel Clarke hosted. Both acts may count on a vast amount of radio plays by Clarke during previous White Noise episodes. DefeKt and L.A.W. will perform live during White Noise #400.

UK followers can tune in to White Noise #400 to 2FM on SKY & Freesat or online, and commercial-free via RTE Pulse using the RTE Radio Player.
Outside of the UK, the techno aficionado can use the RTE Radio Player. In case you would like to take a sneak-peak into the studio and witness Dave Clarke & Guests, the entire show will be aired on YouTube via the 2FM page and a video version of White Noise #400 will be made available on YouTube the following weekend. The show will be recorded, with a 'special edition' podcast available the following Wednesday.

Keep a close eye on Dave Clarke's twitter channel @DJDaveClarke, where all links and details will be communicated to fans, friends and followers!

Dave Clarke: Re-releases 'Wisdom To The Wise' on Boysnoize

Every self-respecting artist who possesses a discography spanning more than two decades should contain certain career highlights when it comes to music releases. In Dave Clarke's case these highlights are simply too many to mention individually, but it's safe to say that Clarke's 'Red' trilogy is considered to be an undisputed milestone in the techno genre and dance scene across the board. It comes as no surprise that DJ Mag incorporated one of the 'Red's in its 'All Time Techno Top 100' list.

One of those true 'Red' techno classics is 'Wisdom To The Wise', taken from 'Red 2'. A raw, uncompromising tune, still championed by many a DJ today 19(!) years after its first release. Boys Noize snapped up 'Wisdom To The Wise' for a well-deserved re-release on the Boysnoize Records imprint.
Steve Rachmad had the timely idea, as if supernaturally aware of the upcoming reissue, and out of the blue came up with two deep and respectful remixes.

Boys Noize, besides providing an up to date solid remix himself, asked Berlin based Marcel Dettmann to rework this DC classic. In addition, Dave wanted the sub bass master Mr. A. Mochi to compliment the original with a fresh new edit which remains very close to Dave's original version.
Out on Boysnoize Records on the 4th of March 2013.

Dave Clarke's White Noise Radio Show Joins Digitally Imported

The fact that aspiring producers in the techno and electro genre produce and deliver tracks solely for the purpose of possible inclusion on the White Noise track list, is about the biggest compliment a radio show can get. For many years, Dave Clarke's weekly White Noise radio show has been and still is an absolute institution for global techno and electro heads and is considered to be the blueprint of future techno / electro biggies amongst many.

As of February 2013, the White Noise radio show is expanding to wider territories. White Noise is currently broadcasted on Irish radio station 2FM RTE, on French online platform Radio FG and is available as a podcast on iTunes. As of Monday the 18th of February, the worldwide acknowledged and award winning Digitally Imported (DI.fm) will air White Noise every Monday at 4pm UK time (11am EST) on its techno channel.

Dave Clarke: Remixes I Am Kloot

The seminal Manchester trio I Am Kloot's single 'These Days Are Mine', taken from the band's forthcoming studio album 'Let It All In', gets the remix treatment by Dave Clarke. After months of continuous heavy duty studio work producing new tunes and remixes under the Unsubscribe moniker (with Mr. Jones), the Baron finally returns with a long awaited Dave Clarke solo production.

Dave Clarke took I Am Kloot's original folk pop version, stripped down the vocals, transformed the single into a seven minute electro belter and made it suitable for the global dance floors.

I Am Kloot - 'These Days Are Mine' (Dave Clarke Remix) is out on PIAS Recordings.

Dave Clarke Presents during Queen's Night at Melkweg Amsterdam

With the epic, sold out ADE edition still fresh in our memories, the Amsterdam venue klinch / Melkweg in close collaboration with Dave Clarke presents a new edition of Dave Clarke Presents, on Queens Night Monday the 29th of April 2013. The Dave Clarke Presents concept reflects Clarkes versatile and progressive musical taste, always on a quest to find the right balance between established names and upcoming talent in the techno genre and its subgenres. For this edition, the British top-dj again managed to compose an impressive line-up which consists of Paul Ritch (live), Cari Lekebusch, Steve Rachmad, Perc and Delta Funktionen, amongst others.

Dave Clarke hardly needs any introduction, the impact Clarke had and still has on the international techno scene with his productions, DJ sets and radio show is simply astonishing. Each week he is on duty in the biggest and most prolific global clubs and his worldly acclaimed radio show / podcast White Noise may very well be named an institute for techno and electro fans.

After a significant leave of absence, Clarke is back to producing tunes again; with Dutch producer Mr. Jones, Clarke already delivered remixes under their Unsubscribe guise for the likes of Boys Noize and Gesaffelstein.
As Dave Clarke, the Brit recently remixed the Manchester based folk-pop band I Am Kloot and his very own techno classic 'Wisdom To The Wise' (Red 2) will see a re-release on Boysnoize Records.

Dave Clarke: Free Download of 'I Love Techno' Set

The Flanders Expo in Ghent (Belgium) was once again the backdrop to another I Love Techno edition, held on the 10th of November 2012.
Traditionally, the Red Room in Flanders Expo marked the playground of the undisputed Techno Baron: Dave Clarke. Serving a relentless techno set to the masses, Clarke's Twitter and Facebook were flooded with messages the week after, asking if this set will be available online in the near future. In the words of Dave Clarke:

"Aside from Studio Brussel wanting me to have a premonition about the exact track listing of my DJ set BEFORE my performance and despite both losing the recording they promised to deliver and subsequently putting my set up as a stream (which was never agreed and in fact was crossed out contractually), THEN listing it as my friend Boys Noize, here is the set in full."

    Dave Clarke: 'fabric 60'

"Plenty of suitably tough and twisted delights to revel in... A fascinating and fresh selection." - DJ Mag

"The Baron Of Techno" has an anarchist streak a mile wide and punk in his soul. Reflecting Dave Clarke's manipulation of the sonic characteristics of fabric's Room 2, 'fabric 60' is a tide of gothic, bass-heavy techno and real electro. Showcasing 17 upfront, and sometimes unknown new releases, he has eschewed any desire to look back with guaranteed party tracks, and focused instead solely on completely new material.

"It is a sonic journey man... don't you hate that?! I wanted to have a gothic and bass heavy start that represented the sonic characteristics that Room 2 is capable of handling. I also wanted it to have some real electro, as fabric is one place that can truly appreciate that. It's all pretty dark though and I think it represents the edgier side of club music that you only get to hear in clubs that care." - Dave Clarke
